Great way to introduce vocabulary that will let you know your students' understanding of content words. It also is a great way for them to be thinking about their learning while working together!
Teacher Directions: Step 1: Provide students with a list of words from the book or chapter you are reading. There is room for 8 vocabulary words on this page but you do not have to use every space.
Step 2: Using this sheet, have students write down your word list then rate each word according to how well they know it from a score of 1-4 with a 1 being ( No Knowledge) to a 4 (Can Explain it to Others).Step
3: In Pairs or small groups have the students share the words they are familiar with and those they are not familiar with. Have students predict meanings and then look up any words that they don’t know. Have students discuss if their predictions about unknown words came true?
Step 4:Students rating scales can be collected and used to explicitly teach key vocabulary in the next lesson as well. Aligns to the following.
