No matter what the subject, students are always faced with learning new words. The Sentence & A Cue format gives students a chance to be creative by using artwork in addition to the traditional ways of learning new vocabulary. Geared to sets of 10 words, which can be from the same root, for example; the Sentence & A Cue requires students to copy the word correctly; indicate the part of speech; provide a meaning for the word; use the word correctly in a proper sentence; and draw a picture to help them understand the word. Sentence & A Cue is ideal for introducing DBQ vocabulary words.
If you teach science, math, or social studies, you can adapt this form to those subjects. It can be cumulative if you don't have a pre-set number of words to "fit" the form. If using for a grade, the 2 points per component method adds up to an even one hundred.
