Basing vocabulary units off Latin and Greek root groups is a great way to help students retain the words and better understand their relationships with other words. This package is adapted from Prestwick House's "Vocabulary from Latin and Greek Roots: Book IV," Units 1-15.
Units 1-3 start out with the students being given a sentence for each of the vocab words and asked to highlight the context clue for each word. They are also asked to write 4 context clue sentences of their own.
Unit 4 is the same, except students are asked to add a participle and absolute to their sentences (See Brushstrokes warm-ups for information).
Unit 5 and 6 ask for 6 sentences and also add in appositives.
Unit 7 adds in adjectives out of order.
Unit 8 starts out with the students being given 6 sentences as before. Section 2 has 6 sentences with the vocab words missing for students to fill in. Students are then asked to write 6 sentences with participles, absolutes, appositives and adjectives out of order.
Units 9-15 remind students how to use the brushstrokes and ask them to write all of the context clue sentences themselves.
