1. Using this simple vocabulary study, students will learn the pronunciation, part of speech, definition as used in the literary work or article, and etymology. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the word by drawing an illustration or dramatizing the meaning of the word as used in the selection.
2. When I introduce this activity, I demonstrate with three words from a selection. For the first word, I complete the vocabulary study sheet as students watch. For the second word, I complete a vocabulary study sheet with students' help. For the third word, the students complete the sheet as I help. (Use a SMARTBoard or overhead project as you work.)
3. Students will need longer to complete this activity at first. Check for accuracy as you circulate. You can grade these on the spot as students present their words to the class. I've provided the number of points for each section to facilitate grading.
