I made this vocabulary unit for my 7th and 8th graders to use as we read Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. I chose words many of them would have trouble with or may have never seen before. This unit would also be useful for many high school classrooms.
The words are listed by chapter, and the number of words in each chapter varies. Every chapter includes definition and sentence space, and many chapters also have a 'Word Part Spotlight' and directions for creating original sentences. I was more concerned with ending at the bottom of a page than with having each element in every chapter, so some chapters just have the basics. You could assign something different to go with these chapters, such as illustrations or the Frayer model.
social studies, american history, language arts, english, autobiography, memoir, 7th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, 10th grade, middle school, high school, abolition, slavery, vocabulary, literacy
**Note: This goes along with the Townshend Press edition of the book. If you have a different edition, page numbers and some vocabulary may be off.
