Students will use classroom textbooks that have a glossary and an index in the back of the book to do this warm up. Students will copy the word of the day down off the board, then students will look up the word in the glossary in the classroom textbook and copy down that definition. Students will then interpret that definition into their own words for a student created definition. Students will finally draw a picture to illustrate their word for the day.
Warm up is meant to take about five minutes of time, it will take students longer at the beginning of the year. When they get into the routine, will give teacher enough time to take roll.
This resource is used at a school that has a modified block schedule, where students attend each class four out of the five school days per week. Can be changed to fit a non-block or a block schedule.
