These vocabulary word cards provide students with a chance to repeatedly hear, say, read and learn vocabulary words in a multitude of hands-on, engaging ways. This 38 page set of vocabulary word cards coincides with the Wonders Reading 1st grade curriculum, but are great for any young learners and speakers, especially English Language Learners! If your district curriculum does not provide any vocabulary instruction, these are great for you, too! There are 5 new words taught per week and it only takes 5-10 minutes of instructional time each day.
They can be used for:
*posting in a pocket chart or on a vocabulary word wall in the classroom
*partner practice on Day 3 of the whole group lesson
*as flashcards for practice in whole group or small group instruction
*for practice at a literacy center
*sending home in a homework packet for practice at home
**My (and my students) favorite way to use them is as a kinesthetic learning tool while doing active listening of the weekly interactive read aloud. My students each receive a card and when they hear their vocabulary word being used in the story, they hold up their card, keeping them actively interested and engaged throughout the learning process. They love this!
Simply print out several copies of each word, mount them on construction paper (or tagboard) and laminate them. Now you’ll have several sets for your students to use on a daily basis, over and over, year after year!
