This page is for direct, explicit instruction of content area words or words in isolation; if context is to be used, teachers must provide it [on posters, handouts, or in texts]. This page will help define and connect vocabulary words to their word family which helps with word study.
The teacher will pre-record or provide words to be copied. Students will check off the part of speech given by teacher or decided/found by themselves. Students will then record a synonym provided by the teacher or decided by themselves. They will then list word family words (especially for verbs and nouns). Finally, there is a box for related words. At the bottom, there are 5 lines for sentence writing to encourage use-of and transfer of words.
Example: word, identity [noun]; word family words: identify, identification, identifying, identifies, identified; related words are looks, appearance, features; then students can use the word identity in a sentence OR a word family word instead.
Designed for multiple uses, multi-use. Page allows for 5 words, make multiple copies if needed.
