Vocabulary Word Study: Weeks 11-20
Help enhance your student’s vocabulary by introducing a word of the week. Each word has a general organizer for students to write the definition, draw a picture, identify the part of speech, and use it in a sentence. Then there are four additional activities for each word. These activities are short, so can be used as morning work, literacy centers, or at the beginning of your literacy block. Some examples of these activities are finding synonyms, antonyms, examples/non-examples, short writing prompts, identifying correct/incorrect uses of the word, expanding the word with prefixes and suffixes, acting out the word, concept wheels, drawing cartoons, and more!!!!
Also included are 10 word wall cards. Display the cards in your room and reference them frequently to help build that vocabulary! Draw student’s attention to these words as they appear in books and literature throughout the year. (I even have my students become ‘word detectives’ and keep an eye out for these words in their own books. If they find the word while reading, or use it in their writing, they put a small sticker on the word card.)
