PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Back away from the graphic organizer, and check out this set of activities that will help students move from memorization to application of new words in their writing! Add these activities to your current vocabulary system (and reuse them all year) to ensure that students are getting consistent practice.

These activities…
• Vary in the stages of learning: identifying meaning from sources, inferring meaning from real-world mentor sentences, and writing original sentences or paragraphs.
• Have the Common Core standard labeled on each sheet for clear alignment.
• List an “I can” statement/objective at the top of each page.
• Use simple rubric rows and teacher checklists for easy assessment.
• Are presented in a clear design for easy photocopying
• Include answer keys and/or examples (as appropriate for the respective activity)
• Include both the PDF and the editable Word file types, in case you want to modify an activity for the needs of your class!

Though the activities do NOT have to be used in any particular order, they are numbered by their suggested sequence in the learning process. Some activities focus on only one word, while some address many words at once; they can be applied to ANY vocab list being taught.

(Click on the PREVIEW to see example pages!)

6. Writing Sentences Practice (L.6): Give targeted feedback and confirm that students can write correctly in terms of both meaning and grammar.
7. Writing Sentences with Context Clues (L.4.a): students write with AND without context clues to show that they know what the word means and can use it flexibly.
