Extensive vocabulary work which requires students to really study a word. They identify parts of speech, compare words, use the word in their own sentence as well as write the context sentence. Students will need to use a thesaurus and dictionary to complete these pages.
Variations means adding prefixes and suffixes to a word which lends itself to conversations about base words. There is also space to have students view a related picture (from a basal or teacher chosen) and students explain how the picture represents the meaning of the word.
The metaphorical picture on the second page encourages students to use the letters of the words to create the picture instead of creating a picture of the word. (i.e. the letters of FIRE are the flames)
