This is a very basic chart that can be used with all levels of learners.
I use it with my adult ESL students when they're reading independently. They choose words to fill in the chart and categorize whether they know them, kind of know them, or have no idea what they mean. They then use the context/their prior knowledge to write a definition for each word. The 'kind of know' and 'no idea' words can form the basis of future vocabulary explorations.
