This is a four page document that uses the words from the Making Meaning (Developmental Studies Center) vocabulary list in extension activities. You can use with that series or use independently with your own lessons to teach the words. These pages I designed promote vocabulary usage in a purposeful, relevant manner to the children. It fosters the synthesis level of learning and objectives. The vocab words are: appetite, chomp, commotion, pout, frigid, pile, firm, appear, exclaim, excursion, astonished, adventure, hero, track, preserve, sob, fond, wobble, respect, faint, audible, inaudible, meadow, ear-splitting, doze, perilous, gigantic, spring, provide, tag-along, lickety-split, store, evidence, plenty, protect, essential, scoot, tip, release, survive, impossible, solid, ferocious, possible, powerful, mushy, surroundings, and discover.
These words should be taught over the span of 1-2 months by dividing the words up and working on only 4-5 words a week. The goal IS NOT to spell them correctly but rather to be able to use them in daily life conversation correctly and understand them when reading.
This document can be used as homework, classwork, or an assessment. The vocabulary word list contains tier two (if you are familiar with the "Bringing Words to Life" book of vocabulary research) for first graders however you should be able to use them with second graders or advanced kindergarteners.
