I am a believer in a hands-on approach to teaching. Students learn when they are deeply engaged in the learning process. But, what does it mean to be hands-on in the language arts classroom? From my experience with reading instruction, my students learn best when they are reading, talking about what they are reading, conversing with their friends, moving, playing games, and involved in deep discussion.
