Need a fun way to target vocalic R with your students? Me too! I created this activity to get some extra vocalic /r/ practice in while also targeting some language goals.
Print out one ice cream cone for each student playing the game (on page 3) There is no limit on how many players can participate in the game!
Print and cut out ice cream scoops on pages 4-12. As students take turns answering questions or producing targets on the cards, they earn a scoop of ice cream for their own cone.
The Vocalic R cards are separated into categories: Inferencing, Rhyming, Word Imitation (or reading based on skill level), Sentence Imitation (or reading based on skill level), and Sentence Creation.
Have your students take turns selecting a card. As they answer the questions with correct productions, they get a ice cream scoop for their own cone. The winner of the game has the most ice cream scoops on their cone at the end of your session!
