Voices of the Abolition Movement: Common Core Summary/Quotation Activity
Product Description
This activity was designed to address ELA Common Core Learning Standards in a 7th Grade Social Studies lesson about the Abolitionists. Primary source material from Garrison, Douglass, Still and Tubman are featured in this lesson. Students must determine the "gist" of each one and pull from them a suitable quote that will complete an incomplete essay about the abolition movement. I found that this lesson also lends itself to "Step Up to Writing" strategies as well in that the essay, once completed can be color coded using highlighters.
