These "Volcano Mouth' visuals are inspired by the book My Mouth is a Volcano by Julia Cook. The volcano with an "X" acts as a non-verbal visual to students to remind them not to blurt or interrupt.
Colorful and printer-friendly (black and white) posters and visuals are available.
Larger size visuals can be printed off and posted at the front of the room for a whole class reminder.
The medium size posters can be laminated and put onto a stick/ruler. This would allow a teacher to hold up the visual like a sign as a nonverbal cue to students as they need reminders not to blurt ("use their volcano").
The smaller cards can be printed, laminated and hole punched then attached to a teacher's lanyard. This is how I prefer to use this tool since it is always at my fingertips and I can show the visual to students no matter where we are!
These small cards can also be printed off and used as a visual that a teacher places on a student's desk that may be interrupting or using a volcano.
I hope that you find these visuals helpful!
