This Volume Task Card resource gets your students working with building blocks to build different rectangular prisms and find the volume of the prisms in a fun, hands-on way.
This resource includes:
•Minds-On Task – this open ended question can be used as a diagnostic, entrance slip, or a full group introduction to the task. Students should have a variety of building blocks available to them so they can explore the answers to this task.
•12 Task Cards – these task cards make a great math station or partner activity. Students will stretch their brains as they try to manipulate the given blocks in different ways to get the required volume and shape (and ask the students to PROVE they are correct by finding the volume with the formula). Students can explore and work with the cards as a math center (students do not require building blocks to complete these cards, but I would recommend having them available for students so they can actually explore the concepts in a hands-on way). Including the recording sheet as a requirement for the students to complete allows for an easy formative assessment for you.
•Answer Page and Recording Page – students can self-check their answers during math stations, or you can use the page for more formal checks.
