PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Volume and Solids: Close Reading and Writing Responses
Made to help distinguish Volume, SA, Lateral Area situations and pick an appropriate formula.Stem Writing and Semantic Feature Analysis are the two centers of these activities. They focus on reasoning with geo. elements and their defining attributes that, ultimately, sort them into appropriate categories in a hierarchy based on properties.
Students can use this activity to demonstrate their thought process and understanding of the topic through close reading and open response exercises. The poster format is structured by the highlighted numbers of “blank spots”, which guide students through the process of problem-solving and allows for a quick answer check. The product is in black and white to ease reproduction. It contains 4 independent parts: 1) Close Reading, based on identifying critical elements forming solids, their relationships, and appropriate notation; 2) Thought-provoking Reflective Writing Response, focused on comparing and contrasting 3-D objects. …I also included an extra page for additional qns you may have. 3) “Working with 3-D Shapes” mind map poster (can be used for student reference after this activity); 4) Answer Keys, to eliminate your prep time. Your quiet students and ELLs will be able “to point at” what they mean, when they struggle to explain it, and will boost their ability to collaborate. In addition, this activity is meant to foster students’ observational skills, critical thinking, attention to details. Students are provided with the hint (if needed): missing words are found in the Reflective Writing part.
