Volume and Surface Area (Prisms, Pyramids, Cylinders, Cones, Spheres, Hemispheres) Puzzle
This cut-out puzzle was created to help students practice finding the volume and surface area of rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, trapezoidal prisms, cylinders, square pyramids, triangular pyramids, cones, spheres, and hemispheres. A pentagonal prism is also included with the base area given. Many questions are challenging and will require the Pythagorean Theorem in order to find a side length. This activity was created for a high school level geometry class.
Students find the volume and surface area of each figure, then cut out the squares and rearrange so the edges meet and paste onto a template. A template to paste the solution and answer key included. The box letters make it easy for students to organize their work AND make it easier to grade!
I recommend having students work in partners and divide up the work. This way, each student will complete 8 volume and 8 surface area questions. I purposely mixed up the problems to ensure there was an even amount of practice.
