PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a download for 4 one-page activities finding total volume and specific surface area of complex 3-D solids.
Activity 1: A house- one rectangular prism + one triangular prism
Activity 2: A tunnel- one triangular prism- one triangular prism
Activity 3: A spa- one rectangular prism + one square prism
Activity 4: A set of blocks- one cube + one rectangular prism + one triangular prism
Each activity asks the students to split the figures and find individual volume of each, then apply to the original question, what is the total volume?
After the volume question, each question asks for a SPECIFIC area of the surface. NONE use total or lateral surface area.
Activity 1: A house- painting all but the roof
Activity 2: A tunnel- carpeting the inside
Activity 3: A spa- putting plastic on all areas placed underground
Activity 4: A set of blocks- velcro the 3 pieces together (velcro must be placed on BOTH blocks in order to stick)

Please feel free to ask questions on how I led the students in this activity. It is for all grade levels asked for volume and surface area. My students did one activity in a group of 3-4 in a 45 minute class period.
