30 task cards at 3 ability levels for calculating the volume of 3D prisms.
Since January 2015, I’ve been teaching mathematics in addition to science. An experienced maths teacher observed me using these task cards with a class and she said that she thought the students loved using these cards. She said the students could work at their own level and focus on one task at a time.
The first 10 focus on cuboids.
The next 10 are triangular prisms and cylinders (using radius).
The final 10 are cylinders (using diameter), triangular prisms (where height is not as obvious), trapezoidal prisms and prisms with compound shapes.
There are full-page cards, but also versions with 4 and 8 cards on a page. The text is still clear with 8 cards on a page but you save paper!
An extra card is included at the end with the answers on - remember not to hand this to the students unless you want them to check their own work.
I’ve also extended the use of these cards by asking students to calculate the surface area of the simpler shapes.
I hope you enjoy using these cards as much as I’ve enjoyed my first steps in teaching mathematics!
