This is an inquiry-based lab where, by the end of the lab, students should gain an understanding of how the density of objects is related to it floating or sinking in water. Students will learn how to measure the volume of irregularly-shaped solids through the method of water displacement. There are pre-lab questions, instructions for the lab, data tables, post-lab questions, data summary and analysis instructions, and a grading rubric included in this product.
This lab is ideal for a middle school physical science context but can be used for introductory physical science courses (chemistry, physics, earth science, etc.) in high school.
