This lesson is a fun way to introduce students to volume and to start discussing the first type of volume - prisms. This lesson is differentiated and standards based. To receive all of the materials for this lesson, purchase this file and my "Volume of Prisms Lesson Plan and Worksheets" item as well.
This Smart Board file contains a do now based on how to find area (tying to previous knowledge), a guided notes section that presents new material to students (how to find the volume) using a fun scenario. For the guided notes, the blanks can be erased with the Smart Board eraser to reveal the word that is hidden.
For guided practice, examples are presented to students using examples on the smart board that can be manipulated -- i.e. a box that can be broken up into cubes and counted, a ruler that can be used to measure, and a way to use cubes to count how long an object is.
Also, the worksheets that coincide with lesson are inserted in the Smart Board file so that constant modeling can be done for each step.
To receive the other materials that go with this lesson, download my other file -- "Volume of Prisms Lesson Plan and Worksheets" to get: a full detailed lesson plan, guided notes, a differentiated group activity and individual practice. (NOTE - this is not included with this item, just a description of the other item that coincides with this one)
Enjoy, hope this helps!
