In my experience calculus textbooks do not have enough practice for volumes of solids with know cross sections to adequately prepare students for the AP Calculus AB exam. This handout is a collection of 12 problems dealing with this topic. The first 8 are fairly simple, but lots of different shapes for the cross section perpendicular to the x-axis. This way students can focus more on setting up the intergral than determining the length of a representative cross section. Problems 9 - 12 are much more challenging, with cross sections perpendicular to the y-axis. The answers are at the bottom of page 2.
