This packet includes vowel charts focusing on the most common vowel sounds. The charts are:
Short and Long Sounds
A - short a, a_e, -all, -ay, -ai, -ar and -aw/-alk
I - short i, i_e, -ie, -igh, -ir and -ing
E - short e, e_e, ee, -ew, -er, ea, -ey, and eigh
O - short o, -or, -ou, -ow, -oo, o_e, -oy and -oi
U - short u, -ur, u_e, -ui and -ue
Each chart is presented twice. The first version includes blanks on which students write words with the vowel patterns.
The second chart includes the written words so students can practice fluently reading words with the various vowel patterns.
At the end of this file, there is a summary chart for each vowel with one anchor word per spelling pattern.
These charts can be bound to create a vowel book for students. A simple cover is included. Though these pictures are offered in color, they do print well in black and white.
Reading through these charts chorally on a regular basis helps students become familiar with the (many) sounds vowels can make. Students can then use these charts as a reference tool during both reading and writing activities.
This is one of my most versatile and valuable teaching tools. I hope you find it useful!
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. : ) Anne
