This packet, by Sara Ipatenco, is designed to help your students practice their vowel combinations. Each page has a snowman with a vowel combination on his tummy. The rest of the page is covered with blank snowballs. Students then write a word that contains the vowel combination on the snowman’s tummy in each empty snowball. Each page has space for 10 words. Some are repeats as several combinations, such as “ea” make more than one sound. Some of the sheets might have empty snowballs when kids are done because there aren’t 10 words with that vowel combination. For example, there aren’t that many words with “ea” that make the long “a” sound. The sheets are perfect for morning work, phonics practice or homework. Make the set a month-long activity for January by printing the pages and stapling them to form a winter-themed vowel combination practice book! I’ve also included possible answers for each vowel combination. The combinations included are ai, ay, au, aw, ea, ee, ei, ew, ey, ie, igh, oa, oe, oi, oy, oo, ou, ow, ui, ue, ar, or, er, ir and ur – for a total of 34 practice pages. Have fun and stay warm!!
