This set of vowel digraph read and write the room centers includes 124 word cards with corresponding pictures that give meaning to the words as students decode, sort, and write them. This makes them great vocabulary builders for all students, and especially for those learning English as a second language.
Twelve to sixteen word cards and a recording sheet are included for each of the following vowel digraph pairs:
• ai and ay
• ee and ea
• ie and igh
• oa and ow
• oi and oy
• ew and ue
• au and aw
• ow and ou
• oo (long and short sounds)
These cards can be used in a variety of ways. In my own second grade classroom, I use them during my small group center rotations at the beginning of the week, when the weekly phonics and spelling skill is still new. I tape the cards around the classroom, give each student in the center group a clipboard, and send students on a silent scavenger hunt to find, read, and write each word under the appropriate heading on their recording sheets. This could also be done as a whole class scoot game.
This resource is also included in my Vowel Digraph Bundle
and in my Read and Write Our Classroom Bundle
