This Super Hero Set just might be what your students need to succeed!
Students need practice looking at new words so they can read them fluently. When they play this game, they get that practice over and over. They learn from reading and from their peers also. Over and over is a great way to become fluent in anything.
The object of the game is to have the most cards when the game is over. (The game is over when your time is up or if there are no more cards left.) The other object of the game is to become fluent in reading words with two vowels.
There are two games in this set. One with regular long vowels using a silent e. One with irregular vowels such as oa, ui, ow, aw, ea, ou, oo, and oi (and a few more too). Each set has 60 words and 12 special cards that make the game twist a bit to make it more fun.
This is a wonderful game for a center with a couple people, a small group, and a Response to Intervention group.
Directions: Students draw a card. If they can read it, they can keep it in their pile. If they can't read it, the card goes to the bottom of the pile. There are some special cards that give a new direction to the game to make it interesting. Things like losing all their cards, trading with someone, and pick another card are a few of those special cards.
The Irregular vowels are harder for some children so these can be used for your advanced students in 1st or 2nd grade. Third graders should be able to read the irregular vowels with minimal problems.
There is a set just like this but with a Christmas Theme.
