Phonics knowledge is part of the common core standards. These vowel booklets allow your students to creatively show you their understanding. You simply fold the paper in a hotdog fold and then in a hamburger fold to make the bookets. The first 5 booklets each focus on one vowel. The short and long sounds are identified with simple CVC and CVCe patterns. The other 5 booklets also focus on one vowel sound at a time, but involve different spellings of the long vowel sounds. Children are asked to color the letters that make the long vowel sounds. The spelling patterns that are covered in these booklets are; a-e, ai, ay, ea, ee, ie, y, igh, i-e, o-e, ow, oa, o, u-e, oo, and ew.
