Do your students struggle to decode words containing "ay"? This product is for you!
Scaffolded Phonics is an instructional tool I created to support students mastery of vowel patterns (aka vowel teams). It was created with the idea that vowel patterns are explicitly taught and highlighted for students at the beginning of instruction. As the instructional sequence continues scaffolds become less and eventually support is taken away allowing students the opportunity to independently read words containing the "ay" vowel team.
These instructional materials can be used for students who have struggled to master specific vowel patterns or they can be used to introduce the vowel patterns to students for the first time. The instructional materials can also be used a resource for independent review and practice (during centers, independent reading, at home phonics practice, etc.).
These lessons were designed to take from 20-25 minutes each, however can be modified for shorter or longer instructional time periods. The lessons are designed for a small group of students (1-5 students); however with modification can be used with a larger group of students.
Included in this 21 page product is lesson plans for 5 days of instruction, a key word card (with a picture), 10 pages of student materials including words in isolation, sentence reading, a reading passage, and an assessment sheet for each day to monitor student’s progress toward mastery of the vowel pattern.
