Vowel Faces is a PowerPoint presentation and a series of worksheets.
The vowel sounds are presented through drawings taught through PowerPoint animations that the students reproduce on the worksheets. Two PowerPoint files are included, one with sounds and one without. Both include a review section where all of the faces are included on one slide, and each can be fully animated/completed with a single click on that specific face; in other words, you can reveal then in the order you'd like.
The students draw the faces and write connected words on the worksheets. The words containing the given vowel are written under the face. Several variations of the worksheets are included, the only difference being the size of the writing lines for the words.
Additional worksheets include illustrated-dictionary-style pages where the students write and illustrate words for each of the vowels (one vowel per page, with seven word/illustration areas).
UPDATE: New mini-lesson worksheets are included (half-page; add your own material to the other half), as well as mini-lesson worksheets for the long vowels.
The approach taken with these materials connects hearing the sounds (aural experience), making the sounds (physical/oral experience), seeing the pictures (visual experience), drawing the pictures (spatial experience), and fun (memorable experience?).
I've used this approach for years and have always found success with it.
