Use muscle memory to help your students recall the sounds of short vowels. Each poster represents a movement that students can use to cue memory for sounds.
/a/ Cover your mouth. Say the short a sound when you sneeze /a/ /a/ /a/ choo!
/e/ Put your hand to you ear like you can't hear. Say the short e sound /e/ /e/ /e/.
/i/ Pretend you have icky sticky notes on your fingertips and can't shake them off.
Say the short i sound /i/ /i/ /i/.
/o/ Tap your head and think about the sound you will say. Say the short o sound
/o/ /o/ /o/.
/u/ Bend your arm and lift a heavy weight. Say the short u sound /u/ /u/ /u/.
Play short vowel sound charades. Cue the hand signal and ask students to respond with the sound. Play short vowel charade relays.
