Short vowels, long vowels, variants and diphthongs.
I do sometimes specify the different A sounds, but still call them both short; because as far as rules go, they are. If there's a rule for determining when it will be as in cat vs. as in father, I don't know it. Help me out if you do.
I made this for my ESL students, to give them one resource to look at for all the stuff I've been telling them.
