Pictogram flashcards with sentences on the back (print double sided). I created these for reading instruction with my students with dyslexia. After learning the vowel rule, "when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking," my students could usually read vowel pairs correctly, but could not remember which second vowel went with the first vowel for spelling. After months of practice, they still did not remember the vowel teams through a OG reading program. The vowel team buddies help students learn the vowel teams through pictures and rhymes. The pictures resemble the letter and/or rhyme in order to be easier to recall from memory. The sentences on the back use the vowel pair in a sentence, often multiple times. Have students first learn the rule that the first vowel does the talking, then have them practice with these cards to learn which vowels are paired up. Have them draw their own versions for extra help with memorization through multiple intelligences.
