Thank you for viewing Vowel-r Syllables!
I created this game for my Dyslexic students, but every child can benefit from learning this syllable pattern strategy. By learning to recognize how vowels and the letter Rr work together, it will help your students learn to recognize how these syllables sound in words. After practicing this strategy, it will help them begin to apply this concept to their reading and spelling. Students are excited and empowered as these strategies become routine when reading or spelling on their own.
I have used this strategy in small groups of 3-4 students, but it would also work with partners. Distribute 6 cards to each player, and place the remaining cards in a pile face down on the table. One student begins the game by placing one of his or her cards face up on the table after reading the words on their domino. The student to the left of the first player must match a vowel-r syllable to the first domino, and read the word that they are matching to the first domino. If that student does not have a domino with a matching vowel-r syllable, they must draw a card from the pile that was placed face down. Continue the game until all of the dominoes have been played.
I use this game with my dyslexic students, but it can also be used in literacy stations 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades, or in intervention groups in 2nd-5th grades.
I hope that your students enjoy playing this game as much as mine do! Please don't forget to review and leave a comment! Your feedback helps me make my products better!
Thank you! ~ Kristin
