Why I created the Wanted Letter Series:
Firstly, I have a ninja class. It is based on being mindful. My students love being ninjas and being known for being quiet and respectful around the school.
I created Wanted Silent Letter "e" and Wanted Letters "gh" initially because my students needed a resource to remember word patterns. (Sometimes we call them "ninja words" -- silent letter e, digraphs, etc). I noticed some of my students were embarrassed because they did not know how to read efficiently. They kept signing books out of the library that were above their reading level to make it seem like they were keeping up with their peers.
I ordered resources online, but unfortunately, they were not a very captivating read. You may be familiar with…"Jack sat on the log. The log was full of mud. Now jack is full of mud…" (REALLY?) I was almost embarrassed to take them out. I felt as if I was insulting their intelligence-so I drew pictures and made a story about sounding out words. I read it to my students in class and the book was a hit!
They strongly encouraged me to create more and when I felt I was done with the series, they begged me to publish them! I knew NOTHING about publishing---but they continued to plead…so I challenged myself to find out how to publish…and the rest is history. Here is one of the books that I created. There are two more: "Wanted Silent Letter "e" and Wanted Letters "ph". My next book will be Wanted Letters "sh".
Oh, and by the way, my students, Sam and Jazz started quoting from my books when I asked them how they were able to remember how to pronounce the difficult "ninja" words! Victory!! You will not be disappointed! See the paperback and kindle versions on www.amazon.com/author/sdh
