Why I created the Wanted Letter Series:
Firstly, I have a ninja class. It is based on being mindful. My students love being ninjas! The also love being known for being quiet and respectful around the school. (Rarely do I ever have to call home). It's a great classroom management technique--no marbles in the jar needed! (More ninja classroom aids coming soon)!
I created Wanted Silent Letter "e" initially because my students needed a resource to remember word patterns. (We call them "ninja words" because they are silent and tricky!-You know, silent letter e, digraphs, etc). I noticed some of my students were embarrassed because they did not know how to read efficiently. They kept signing books out of the library that were above their reading level to make it seem like they were keeping up with their peers.
So--I ordered resources online, but unfortunately, they were not a very captivating read. You may be familiar with…"Jack sat on the log. The log was full of mud. Now jack is full of mud…" (REALLY?) I was almost embarrassed to take them out. I felt as if I was insulting their intelligence-so I drew pictures and made a story about sounding out words. I read it to my students in class --and the book was a hit!
They encouraged me to create more and when I felt I was done with the series, they begged me to publish them! I knew NOTHING about publishing---but they continued to plead…so I challenged myself to find out how to publish…and the rest is history. Here is one of the books that I created. There are two more. "Wanted Letters "gh" and Wanted Letters "ph". My next book will be Wanted Letters "sh". If you would like me to create a much needed book. Hit me up! If you would like to know how to make one…hit me up! (Videos to come!) I'm just getting started!
Oh, and by the way, my students, Sam and Jazz started quoting from my books when I asked them how they were able to remember how to pronounce the difficult "ninja" words! What a special feeling-- (It's the same feeling of Oprah saying to you: "…and you get a car, and you get a car…" ...Right?--Well, almost…) You will not be disappointed!
