Whole Class or Small Group Review Game:
The review game asks students to identify sentence structures using text from a plethora of YA novels. For the full list of novels, check out the last page of this document. The answer to each review question is located on the very next slide which allows for immediate feedback. I like to use this slideshow as a whole-class review or to divide the class into teams to compete against one another.
Looking for a bit of a challenge? Play “Sentence Structure War” (Over 80 cards to print!)
For students who feel more confident in identifying sentence structure, use the set of playing cards! I would suggest either printing on card stock or laminating the cards for a more permanent solution.
Explain the function of phrases and clauses in general and their function in specific sentences.
Choose among simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences to signal differing relationships among ideas.
