These bell ringers are designed to accomplish three things:
1. Get the students into a routine of coming into class and working immediately. We all know that the first few minutes usually sets the tone for how the class period will go.
2. Since the bell ringers are meant to be a review, the students shouldn't require the teacher's help too much. This allows you time to get organized, take attendance, etc.
3. Since the bell ringers are comprehensive, they will help students keep skills fresh in their minds, even if those skills were taught in class months ago. Within the course of the week, almost all of the basic reading skills are addressed. These skills include, but are not limited to, context clues, author's purpose, main idea, supporting details, inference, cause and effect, and compare and contrast. Writing and grammar skills are alos included.
