Are you tired of doing the same old things with novels every year? Here are 30 proven activities and rubrics designed to make reading a novel much more hands-on and less question/answer driven. Students read a classroom novel then complete up to three or four of these activities. Some activities are group oriented while others are individual. Grading is less tedious as well because you're not grading 100 essays on theme, for example. Each activity is worth the same amount of points, so no matter what your students choose to do, it just goes into the gradebook as a novel activity. Great for grades 7-12, although many could work at the elementary level too. No need to make your own rubrics for each lesson because they're conveniently provided. Perfect for schools who are leaning more towards Differentiated Instruction!
