Product Description
This activity is designed to prove why the Kennedy Space Center in Florida was chosen for rocket launches instead of any other place up North. The reason is rather simple. Because KSC is so far south, it gets a boost from the rotation of the Earth. The activity has students plotting the latitude of Bangor, Main (45 degrees N) and calculating how fast that city is moving due to the Earth's spin. Students then repeat the the plot and the calculation for KSC.

There are 4 pages to be duplicated and distributed to the class. Three other pages in cream color are the solution sheets for the teacher, I turns out that Bangor, Maine spins at 730 mi/hr while KSC spins at 917 mi/hr.
