After creating and using this clean lined form at my school a few years ago we have increased our percentage contribution to the county’s overall English Language Proficiency Goal each year from 14% in 2011 (which is before we did WIDA ACCESS data analysis at the school level to drive planning and instruction) to 22% in 2012, 24% in 2013, and 29% in 2014.
It is important for school administrators, ESOL teachers, and content teachers to know the County’s AMOA proficiency and progress goals so that each school may gauge their school’s contribution to the county’s overall AMOA goals.
The best way to ensure the success of ESOL teachers and students is to know where ESOL students’ strengths and weaknesses lie.
At the end of each year, ESOL students take the WIDA ACCESS English language proficiency test. This test provides valuable information on the language performance of ESOL students in the four language domains of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking within the areas of math, science, social studies, language arts, and social and instructional language. This data can be used to drive instruction.
If you have any questions on how to gather the data please don't hesitate to contact me.
