This is a game I created for my students to use in our literacy centers. The rules of game play follow those of a modified, traditional UNO™, with a reading twist!
The deck includes 84 full-color cards which can be used to practice the creation of compound words. There is also a reference list for students to see which compound words are possible with this deck. I recommend printing on cardstock and laminating for durability.
On his or her turn, a player can put down a card that can be compounded with the word on the top face-up card in some way, OR a card that matches the color on the face-up card. The player should look for the compounds first, before looking for a matching color or special card. When laying down a card, the student should say the compound they came up with.
