  • CAN YOU EAT A POINSETTIA? No, it will make you very sick.
  • WHAT DOES A POINSETTIA SYMBOLIZE IN DIFFERENT CULTURES? The shape of the poinsettia flower and leaves are thought as a symbol of the Star of Bethlehem, which led the Wise Men to the Baby Jesus. The red colored leaves symbolize the blood of Christ, which represents his love. The Aztecs cultivated the plant. Its natural habitat is Central America. A popular legend surrounding the poinsettia dates back to 16th century Mexico. A little Indian girl or possibly boy wanted to bring a gift to present to baby Jesus. Being very poor, she could not buy a gift. The little girl gathered some green weeds growing on the outer edge of a field. Some say an angel guided her to pick the weeds from along the road. She walked down the aisle of the church to place her 'bouquet of weeds' at the foot of the nativity. The green weeds suddenly turned a beautiful crimson in color.
  • IT IS THE MOST POPULAR HOLIDAY FLOWER.
  • DO POINSETTIAS LIKE SUN? Yes, they like direct light.
  • WHAT KINDS OF COLORS HAVE YOU SEEN IN POINSETTIAS? Green leaves, Red flowers, White Flowers, Pink flowers. There are over 100 kinds… purple, salmon, and multi-colors.
  • Integrate it with The Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie DePaola as recommended by TPT buyer Elizabeth B.
