These W.O.L.F. organizers present the student with a strong problem-solving acronym designed by my colleagues and me to utilize while tackling difficult math word problems. The W stands for what do you need to know. The O is for organize and observe. The L is for let’s solve it. The F is for follow up and explain. By utilizing this format, students give themselves a chance to solve even the most difficult problems. I even provide points for the effort (think growth feedback), even if the solution was not correct. The first page in this packet provides you with a blank form so you can create W.O.L.F. challenges for your students. The blank format and two of these challenges are available in the free preview. The W.O.L.F. challenges include work with division, volume, decimals, fractions (unlike denominators), addition, mixed numbers, multiplication, improper fractions, subtraction, patterns, area, and more. These problems truly challenge students to read carefully as well. They are designed to be tricky! This entire packet contains 10 total W.O.L.F. challenges with the blank W.O.L.F. and the first two free. The answer keys are included; however, on some of them, I do not write an explanation for the solution as each student may approach the solution in a different way. Enjoy! Have fun writing your own as well!
