Product Description

This is a printable, easy to assemble activity for your Reading Center.

It is a set of 205 cards that once connected with bookrings, becomes a fantastic word building activity, that caters for most students.

I usually print each file on color paper, cut and laminate individual cards and connect them together with a bookring.

This gives opportunity for working with individual students who flick through and make new words.

It also allows me to select certain sounds for a group of children and they can use as a literacy group activity.

This is also used as a group activity or is useful to incorporate into assessment tasks.

There are 3 sets of cards. Each card measures 8.2 X 10.8 cm.

Set 1 has 80 cards;

a card for every letter of the alphabet

every vowel ( a couple of each)

final single sounds (so this is another alphabet plus some double extras like zz, ll, ff)

Set 2 has 100cards;

initial blends, for example pl, br, st thr sh

double vowels for example ai, ee, ou, oo

final blends for example ck, sh, est, er, mp

Set 3 has 32 cards

word-building suffix for example able, ful, less, ment, tion, ing, ed

For some students, I choose and connect specific letters that they need. So all students are working at their individual level, but it looks as though everyone is doing the same thing.

Sometimes, I connect a large piece of paper to 3 lots of cards, and students write all the words they’ve made. They love this activity.

Also use for building spelling words; learning spelling rules, (like adding ing and physically taking off the e or doubling the last letter.)

Other activities include word families, rhyming, adding suffixes.

I have other activity cards for these grades listed
