WORD DETECTIVES – FIFTY STATES INVESTIGATION Part Two is a unique, clever way for your students to learn to identify and spell the names and admission dates of the fifty states.
This 34-slide Power Point (presented as a PDF) will also inspire your students to look more closely at the words and passages that they read and encourage them to work cooperatively to solve problems.
WORD DETECTIVES - FIFTY STATES INVESTIGATION PartTwo does NOT have to follow PART ONE. The two Power Point presentations may be enjoyed in any order.
Put out the call for WORD DETECTIVES! Your class will be eager to accept the challenge.
“Calling all Word Detectives! Calling all Word Detectives! Be on the lookout for three, four, and five letter words. Last seen hiding in the names of the fifty United States.”
WORD DETECTIVES do not take time hunting for two-letter words! No! Two-letter words are left to amateurs. WORD DETECTIVES take on BIG challenges. They track down words with three, four, five, or even six letters.
All you’ll need to do is project this 34-slide Power Point on the screen and provide students with a list of the fifty states. The directions are simple!
WORD DETECTIVE DIRECTIONS:
1. Read the clues provided.
2. Talk about the clues with fellow WORD DETECTIVES.
3. Identify the missing word.
4. Scan your list of the fifty states.
5. Work as a team to identify the name of the state (or states) where the word is hiding.
6. WARNING! Extra-clever words have been known to have two or more hiding places.
Some teachers choose to enjoy WORD DETECTIVES – FIFTY STATES INVESTIGATION Part Two in its entirety. (Once WORD DETECTIVES get to work, it’s hard to stop them!) Others prefer to kick off their reading or social studies classes with one clue per day over the course of a few weeks.
WORD DETECTIVES – FIFTY STATES INVESTIGATION Part Two is the perfect addition to a substitute teacher's "bag of tricks".
Homeschoolers will find this Power Point an excellent way to launch an in depth study of the United States.
