-2. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS- WWI discussion questions that are easy to use in class and create a nice discussion either in groups of 2 or individually to do and discuss as a class.

-3. 40 SLIDE POWERPOINT- Causes PowerPoint about what is going on year by year with WWI. This PPT is large but covers all angles of the war. It comes with a sheet to keep the students accountable. There is 40 slides with a slide for the video to be inserted at the end.

- 4. WWI SHORT VIDEO -A fantastic short video that I believe will change students perspectives on WWI as they see the realities of what it meant to be a soldier in WWI. This short film has subtitles and really brings home the message about WWI. ( please insert at the end of the PPT)

- 5. WOODROW WILSON 14 PT- assignment to do in class following the PPT.

This is a one-day assignment that students can do by themselves or in groups. It is one of the standards so it is very important to spend some time on this critical document that will lead to many later developments in the world.

-6. DAS BOAT AND GALLIPOLI VIDEO WRITING ASSIGNMENT IN CLASS-

This is a fantastic assignment that covers submarine warfare and the trenches of WWI. It is all about historical empathy and writing. I will be including the assignment sheet and the links to both of the videos.

The first assignment deals with submarine warfare. I know Das Boat is from WWII but it does not matter as it truly shows what it is like to live and die in a submarine. It shows how you are stuck and at the will of those above you. I love showing this clip, even though it is from 1981.

The second assignment deals with the trenches and Mel Gibson who is a trench runner. He has to try and save his battalion from going over the top and committing suicide. It is really sad and makes the students realize just how pointless the loss of life was.

Das Boat:

DAS BOAT CLIP

46"-1'05" give or take a few seconds.

Gallipoli:

GALLIPOLI CLIP

Last 10 minutes of the movie.

-7. WAR HORSE- Wanted to create something that would allow me to keep the students accountable for the movie, but also allow them to watch the movie.

WAR HORSE SAMPLE

Includes: This 15 question worksheet will give you some accountability for the movie while still making the students think about some of the essential questions from the movie.

-8. WORKSHEET- This is an old fashioned worksheet with fill in the black answers about WWI. I have also included the key and as it is a Word document you can adjust everything to make t work for you!

-9. WRITING ASSIGNMENT- This is a 5 paragraph essay that will use the paragraph format that I have posted in my store. Each paragraph is 11 sentences and has a very specific format. This assignment will compare/contrast and discuss the consequences of each of these major events.

- 10. WWI Readings- A collection of great readings to be used in class.

- 11. Crash Course- A great guide to go with the Crash Course episode. It is a 6-page handout that really does help the students stay accountable while watching it.

Crash Course 36

Here is what is included in this 6 page download:

1. Note Taking Guide for Students: This is essentially a blank section to take notes in.

2. Summary of the Video: A place for the students to write a short summary of what they have watched.

3. Teacher Notes from the: My 1 page of notes.

4. Vocabulary Section: I have chosen 3 words that would be good to have the students look up. I also have them write each of the words in a sentence.

5. Quiz for students / with answers: There is a 10 question quiz with answers from the episode. It can be taken in class or taken home. I think in class would be better.

6. Blank Template for student created quiz: I decided to add this to every Crash Course guide as it works really well with students.

**Also, I highly recommend having the students watch this on .5 speed. If you click the wheel on the bottom of the youtube video you can adjust the speed.

- 12. Projects- Propaganda poster project.

- 13. Stanford University Lesson- Great lesson on the Somme from Stanford. Fantastic stuff as this is more of a freebie than anything else.

- 14. Chapter Test / Quizzes- These are my tests and quizzes with keys included.

- 15. BONUS- This is a great video of some real WWI footage that I am including as a bonus.

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

-1. POWERPOINT/VIDEO/NOTE TAKING GUIDE: I have included a short 10 slide PPT that has a 60-minute video embedded into it. I have included the 60-minute video as I think it is powerful in trying to figure out if this event was even true. I have also included a sheet that will be filled in with the PPT while you are going through the information.

-2. POSITION DOCUMENT: Position document that go with the primary source documents. I have included 14 primary source documents for the students to really make a decision on whether this even was true or not. I would not want the students to read all of them, maybe just 4-5 of them as they begin to build their position.

-3. ESSAY: Once the research has been done a 3 paragraph essay is a wonderful way to wrap this up.

Paragraph #1: one paragraph focusing on the Armenian's
Paragraph #2: one paragraph focusing on the Turks
Paragraph #3: one paragraph would be the opinion of the writer.

With a conclusion and an intro, the total amount of writing would be 5 paragraphs.

-4. GOOGLE PRESENTATION ASSIGNMENT: I have also included a google presentation assignment with primary source documents. It is a lesson where the kids get to create slides that show who is responsible for the genocide. They have to use the primary source links to create a position with evidence.

READING AND WRITING BUNDLE

Here is what is included:

- Bibliography PPT
- DBQ resources
- Close Reading sheet
- How to outline
- Mission statement
- Chapter Preview
- Guest Speaker Questions
- MLA/ MEMO
- Read Around sheet
- Paragraph Sheet
- How to write a book review

These are all the writing and reading activities that I use on a weekly basis. You will get 11 activities in total as a BUNDLE.

1. Bibliography PPT: This will allow the user to walk the students through a short bibliography PPT.

2. DBQ stuff: I have included everything you need to know about writing a DBQ with the PPT/Keynote that goes along with it. This will have the 11 steps to writing a DBQ paragraph and the reflection sheet following the writing of the DBQ to get feedback from the students. I have also included a DBQ reading sheet and paragraph writing sheet that is really useful as it will tell you what to write and when to write it. This is probably the most useful thing I use when writing DBQ's.

3. Close Reading sheet: This will give the students some additional direction while reading in class. It is one page and is a really handy tool.

4. How to Outline: I believe this skill is the one thing that helped get me through college. I feel it is necessary to know how to organize large amounts of information.

5. Mission Statement: How to write your own personal mission statement for your life. This is cool as it starts with a word bank and goes down in 5 easy steps.

6. Chapter Preview: This is a great way to have the students preview the chapter prior to actually studying it. I do this in class the day after the test or on the day of the test for HW.

7. Guest Speaker Questions: This is a set of guest speaker questions that is great to have available for when guest speakers come in. I always keep it handy in case things start to get a little stale.

8. MLA/Memo: This teaches how to write a memo or MLA format. Both formats are necessary for life and I love to give the students the tools to be successful.

9. Read Around Sheet: The read around sheet is a way for students to get in groups of 2 or 3 and read each other's papers. It does not matter if it is a DBQ or a paragraph. Feedback is everything and with 230 students it gets tough.

10. Paragraph Sheet: Probably my favorite resource that I have used over the years. I love this paragraph sheet because it just makes sense. I love teaching things that make sense to me and this just makes sense. Enjoy!

11. How to write a book review: This allows students to review the books they are reading mostly for EC. The review has the students go through 6 steps to make sure that they can prove that they have read the book.
