Are your students like mine? You do multiple mini-lessons, practice a skill whole group, small group, and individually and still have problems assessing who really has it down. Or it seems like a student knows it and then it flops in their independent work?
My students seemed to participate well and be on task practicing these skills in Daily 5/Centers independent work. However, not all grasped the basic skills of the week by the end and before we move on. Grading on our standards based report card was also difficult with these concepts.
For years now, my team and I have been using Journeys as our scope and sequence for teaching grammar, vocabulary, spelling, phonics, etc. It wasn't working quite right so this year we are using Journeys as more of a resource, and teaching these concepts in an order that makes more sense with building one idea upon another. Included in this resource is the outline of the order we'll be teaching concepts this year.
